Vector-based Identification Platform for DNA Barcoding, or VIP Barcoding is a user-friendly software in graphical user interface for rapid DNA barcoding, by adopting a two-step approach - first by screening the reference database using the alignment-free composition vector method, followed by alignment-based K2P distance nearest neighbor method using the smaller dataset generated in the first step. This platform is able to deal with both large-scale and multi-locus barcoding data, and can also allow users to conveniently construct their own reference databases. Moreover, VIP Barcoding utilizes OpenMP, which enables the software to take advantage of the multi-core processor for parallel computation. Currently, this stand-alone software is available for XP/Vista/Win7/Win8/Ubuntu(>=10.04)/Fedora(>=13)/Mac(>=10.6.8 Snow Leopard).
